This is the first blog entry for the DLP blog. We hope folks will come to the blog to talk about Downtown Issues. As you are all probably aware, the CSX issue is at the top of our list of topics. We would love to hear from you about this. If you are in favor of the project, we'd love to here why and hope you are open to a discussion of our concerns. If you have concerns, we'd like to hear those as well.
We want to discuss many Downtown issues here. Send us your comments and topics.

I believe there is another solution to this problem. Use the old CSX land west of Kathleen road plus the old Florida Tile site (>300 acres) for the new terminal. You can also connect to the CSX Winston terminal just west of Lakeside Village. Should be possible to build a dedicated truck route between the two sites so there is lots of space. Bonus #1 - Freight trains stop on the west side of downtown Lakeland and don't pass through. Bonus #2 - Easy connection for trucks to I-4 and the Polk Parkway so no great traffic problems that the Winter Haven site causes. Bonus #3 - Lakeland gets to economic impact from the terminal operations to compensate for the added industrial activity.
Worth a more detailed study??
Good Luck - Chris Earl
